London Town

Last weekend I went on a much needed break to London visiting the galleries and museums. One of the first things I visited was an exhibition at the Barge House at the Oxo Tower. It was called Roy’s People Art Fair and was an interactive environment where you could engage with the artists and understand their work. The ground floor had and installation of an eye which the street artist My Dog Sighs had created. It was absolutely amazing because you could become a part of the art and take photos of  you positioned in the pupil of the eye. The rest of the fair was across three floors of an amazing old warehouse  which really added to the ambience of the event. I bought a fabulous print from an artist called Process Smith and had my terrible need to silk screen print satisfied when Lynne let me print a limited edition of a design  by Ian Bailey. Hippo Screen printers print amazing wallpapers and images which are full of wonderful shapes and colour.

The Tate Modern was another must on my to do list, to see the wonderful work of Anni Albers. Albers’ work was a feast to the eyes, colours, line, pattern and texture greeted you as you wandered through the exhibition halls. Seeing, what I had taught to students from pictures in books and the internet, up close in reality, was amazing! The detail and texture made this a body of work I wished I could have handled. I also bumped into a wonderful friend (and artist) of mine, quite randomly at the exhibition.

Finally to mark the end of the 1418-Now exhibition I visited the Imperial War Museum to see the Weeping Window before it ended. I saw the first display in 2014 at the Tower of London Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red  and was blow away by it, and this display though smaller, did not let the view down either. It was a beautiful tribute to finish this tour in 2018 and the Imperial War Museum was very interesting in it’s own right too.

London, a place I love to visit and get lost in for a while, walk the south Bank and see things you don’t expect as well as breathtaking skylines at night……
