Isolation Creation….

Well… it’s a strange world we are living in presently, everything is a worry; getting ill, our jobs and finances, missing our loved ones and when will this all end?

It will end eventually but I think it will have changed a few things once it does. I however find myself with time, and to be honest I am enjoying that part. I can plan to do all the stuff I never have time to do like fixing a dressmaker’s tape measure that has been broken for year, its now as good as new! I have also been creative and found time to put my mark on our home. The big project I have been working on all week is my kitchen update. I posted some pictures on Instagram recently and was asked by a few if I would show a step by step process, so here goes.

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite to paint the cupboards and finished with an Annie Sloan Lacquer over the top. First I cleaned all the cupboards to get rid of grease and dirt. I then took off all the original handles and filled in the holes and drilled new ones for the new copper handles, I had bought many months ago! This first coat is quick and easy just to create a surface for the next coat to fix to, I let it dry overnight. The next day I painted the top coat carefully and again let it dry overnight. The following day I used the lacquer. I had never used this product of Annie Sloan’s before, always previously using her clear wax to protect what I had painted. I didn’t find it that easy to be honest and had to work quickly before it set. Also, you must not go back over anything, just move on until its dry. I only used one coat as it used the whole tin to do the kitchen whereas I only used one tin of the paint for the two coats. I’m not sure I’d use it again to do this kind of project because of the fiddle door shapes, however it would work well on flat surfaces.

After letting that dry overnight, I put the new handles on and cleared up being very careful not to knock it and I will be careful with it for a few more days yet till it hardens. I am really please with the outcome as it has transformed a boring, bland kitchen into a stylish place I now enjoy spending time in! Be kind and stay safe at home.
